March ­ August, the Association of World Citizens will present an Online Regional Meetings Symposium (in 15 countries) on how world citizens and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can convince or pressure governments to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) they adopted by consensus in 2000. This project is in preparation for the UN Summit in New York in September. "The decisions to be taken there may determine the whole future of the United Nations." - UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The project will conclude at the Association of World Citizens conference "Ending War and Organized Violence - The Failure of Global Empire and the Birth of Global Community" at the University of San Francisco, August 2 ­5, 2005. The 2005 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival will feature more than 150 artistic, cultural and community events in Yerba Buena Gardens, on Mission Street between Third and Fourth Streets in San Francisco. The events are all free to the public and include popular and operatic music series, cultural festivals, dance performances, international music concerts, visual art exhibits, theater, spoken word performances, and family and children's programming in the Rooftop Gardens and Carousel Plaza of Yerba Buena Gardens. San Francisco Public Library presents a series of exhibitions documenting the City's involvement with the founding of the United Nations, in honor of its sixtieth anniversary. From the SF History Center's holdings at the Main Library: Our Rights as Human Beings, a 1949 Photo exhibit explaining the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

World Healing is Self Healing presents daily special programs in honor of UN World Environment Day on Appadana International Satellite Television, Telstar 5 and webcast on www.iranradiotv.com. The programs are hosted by Dr. Sonia Gaemi, founder of Women for Cultural Wisdom, and Sue Zipp, director of Women for Cultural Wisdom. Thursday, June 2, Phoenix Theater, Washington and Keller Streets, Petaluma, Trash Planet and the Search for Home, a play and improvization process involving students in issues of global climate crisis. The scenario is two exchange students doing work-study in Africa in 2015. They are starting for home when they discover the bus to the airport is broken down-permanently. Harrowing adventures follow as they search for a way home­and learn how very far from healthy the planet really is. Thursday, June 2, 12:00 noon ­ 4:00 pm in Chinatown's Portsmouth Square, San Francisco. Cathay Post # 384 will present an Environment Awareness Exhibit. The exhibit will include traditional medicine, an acupuncture demonstration, smog-buster technology, a clean water recovery system, bamboo construction methods, and many other environment-related exhibits. There will also be a Chinese Lion Dance and a Native American Traditional Tribal dance. At 2:00 pm there will be a VIP street cleanup ceremony for all the city and international officials to clean up the streets of Chinatown. Friday, June 3, 7:00­9:00 pm at the Empress of China restaurant, Cathay Post # 384 will be introducing for the first time in Chinatown an Organic Banquet Menu commemorating the UN World Environment Day. Unity Foundation's Positive Spin television program features special segments on the United Nations, introduced by UN and Foreign Affairs Correspondent Kim Weichel. Unity Foundation has produced Positive Spin for the past seven years. The show is produced in association with Dirksen Molloy Productions in their San Francisco production and post-production facilities. UN60 Birthday Celebrations at the Red Victorian Peace Center

Saturday and Sunday, Enhancing the Vital Role of the United Nations will be the theme marking the official observation of the 60th year of the founding of the United Nations in San Francisco. The celebration is organized by United Nations Association of San Francisco, in cooperation with the United Nations, the City and County of San Francisco, the Saga Foundation, and many community leaders and organizations. Sunday at the Los Angeles Baha'i Center 5755 Rodeo Drive at La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles. The Unity-and-Diversity World Council in cooperation with the Peace Sunday Steering Committee, will sponsor a two-day Unity-and-Diversity Convergence, including a Festival of Faith on Sunday. The convergence will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the United Nations and the 40th Anniversary of the Founding of the Unity-and-Diversity World Council, which began during International Cooperation Year 1965, sponsored by the General Assembly of the UN to encourage cooperation among non-governmental organizations (NGOs.) The Los Angeles event will strive to build cooperation among those present and focus attention on expanding the Unity-and-Diversity World Council's annual Peace Sunday Celebration. Sunday, June 26, 170 Valencia Street, San Francisco. Turning Point of All Nations: a Statement of the Baha'i International Community will be presented at the San Francisco Baha'i Center. The event begins with Devotions at 10:00 am followed by refreshments at 10:30 am. The program will begin at 11:00 am. Ten years ago, the Baha'i International Community released Turning Point of All Nations, a forward looking statement inspired by the UN's 50th Anniversary Comme-moration. Now the San Francisco Baha'i Community will use this document as the basis for a spiritually-based dialogue on strengthening the UN's institutions and releasing the power of the individual in an emerging inter-national order.
