The San Francisco Parade for World Peace will take place on Saturday, October 27th, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The parade will give focus to the need for peace in our world, our country, and our local communities. This special event is produced by Unity Foundation, a California non-profit organization.The foundation has been promoting world peace, cooperation and unity for more than three decades. The event will begin at 1:00 PM, with the
parade participants gathering at UN Plaza (Market and 7th Streets)
in San Francisco, for a United Nations Day Celebration. The program
will include addresses by Kim Weichel, President of the United
Nations Association of San Francisco and Astrid Stromberg, President
of the United Nations Association/Northern California Division.
The program will have an At 2:00 PM the parade contingents will lineup in UN Plaza (in the area between Market Street and Larkin Street). At 2:20 PM, the parade will begin, with the parade contingents traveling through UN Plaza and turning right on Larkin Street. The parade will then continue to Golden Gate Avenue, where it will turn left and travel to the US Federal Building (450 Golden Gate Avenue) for a Peace Rally with speakers, and music including a marching band. At 315 PM the parade will continue to Polk Street, where it will turn left and travel to Civic Center Plaza for a Celebration of Community Peace. The celebration will include speeches from community leaders and music, dance and poetry performances. The finale of the event will be the creation of a Human Peace Sign on the lawn in front of Civic Center Plaza. Everyone will be encouraged to participate in creating this powerful visual image for peace. The Human Peace Sign will be photographed and sent to media outlets around the world. Bill McCarthy |
